Socialize With Me

I Don't Know How She Does It. {Mani/Pedi Giveaway!}

The subject matter on this is aprospos today because frankly, I'm having one of those days where I'm not sure how anyone does it.

Yesterday afternoon I had back to back to back meetings followed by a last minute call from J, needing the kids and I to come to his office to help with a video project that due to confidentiality actual clients couldn't help in. Of course by the time we did that, grabbed dinner, got home and got kids to bed, all I wanted to do was fall in bed but I had stories due.

So I wrote and I wrote and I wrote and fell into bed at 11:30 or so, the alarm went off at 6:30 this morning because M had homework she had to finish up that she didn't have time to do yesterday.{Due to rushing to J's office.}

I got T and M out the door, mostly successfully and had hoped to get to the gym, where I can check my littles into childcare and work out and read for a bit. Just after getting my kids in the car though, I saw an email on my phone realizing I screwed up and didn't get something turned in this morning that should have been.

So the me-time I was craving was put on hold.

I admit, these days, I'm a little overwhelmed. On top of the normal household and parenting responsibilities, I've got writing responsibilities not just on my blog and elsewhere. I've only got two kid-free afternoons to get work done and sometimes when that time is filled with appointments I have to make up the writing time somewhere else, such as late nights at home or the coffee shop. Oh yeah, and remember that book project I was working on once upon a time, I think it's been 3 months since I did any work on it because I am just making it with all the other responsibilities.

The list of people I am owing emails, phone calls, letters even texts! isn't even funny and makes me feel bad and honestly, sometimes keeps me up at night because I start feeling like a bad friend.

I know that this feeling and this moment is simply a season right now and that we're still finding our school/schedule groove but I also admit that between responsibilities, children and lack of babysitting options some days, the lack of down time or a break for me is getting a little bit old.

I would say that generally speaking I get my share of me time between date nights {we do get a lot of dates, including one tonight at a college alum event!} and girls nights and such but many moms {and women, in general!} don't make time for this.

Eversave surveyed over 700 moms and 35% percent said they find time for themselves once a month and their preferred way to spend that time is pampering themselves with manicures, pedicures, facials and other spa treatments.

What do you do for me-time?

As part of their Back-to-Beauty promotion, Eversave {a group discount site} is offering one of my readers three of their deals for Colleen and Company, a Roseville, MN Aveda salon and spa. {On sale today for $40 at Eversave} The certificates would be good for the winner and two friends to go and get spa manicures AND pedicures. What's better than a girls trip for manis and pedis right?

To enter, simply leave a comment here telling me how you do it all. What are you juggling and what makes your life easier? Basically, how are you doing it all?

For a second entry, share the contest on Facebook or Twitter and leave a comment with the link in the comments.

For a third entry, become a follower on either FB or blogger or subscribe by email to my blog and leave a comment. If you already are, simply say that in the comments.

For a fourth entry, join Eversave and start receiving their daily email deals, leave a comment telling me you did so.

That's right there are FOUR ways to enter. This is a big giveaway with a retail value of over $300. One winner will be chosen by random.org on Wednesday, September 21 at 8pm. This contest is open to ANYONE but please keep in mind the certificates are good in Minnesota, only. You do not have to be a mom or a woman to enter.

PS In the time it took me to do this post, I have responded to emails, made lunch for my littles and packed a snack for H to bring to school. We're moments away from heading to the bus to get H off to kindergarten and then I'm hoping E and I are off for a long, relaxing walk.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post but all words and opinions are mine. I am also receiving my own certificate to Colleen and Company from Eversave.

  1. Wow life is busy! I am not a mom or even a wife (yet!) but in just over 6 weeks I will be becoming one! Wedding craziness has me going. But between working full time, and wedding planning (and not just my own either. I have two friends getting married next year) I find "me" time at night when I can snuggle into bed and read a good book! Reading is a dear pleasure of mine so it helps relax me. Sometimes I only get about 5 minutes in before the eye lids fall down, but it helps take me out of my everyday world into some other world not known to me.

  2. I can't do it all and I'm ok with that which makes me even better at those things that I can do!

  3. I'm a Mom of two little boys that just entered Kindergarten, a wife, a friend, a daughter, a sister, and soon to be part time working! I try to juggle it all by making lists and prioritizing. I DON'T get it all done, and like Kim, I think I have come to realize I can't! LOL! Admitting it is the first step right?? :)

  4. I don't know whether to feel bad or good that you sound as hectic as I've been feeling. I can't do it all. I'm just trying to find balance and not let "elephants" fall through the cracks.

  8. I joined Eversave, thanks for the tip! !! I love those sites!

About doing it all, well I think that just comes with being a parent, spouse etc. I thought I was busy before I was married or had kids, Ha!
I think it's important to stop once in a while re-group and than get going again. I have also learned that it is ok to say no more often. As hard as it can be at times, it is a must in my life.

  12. What am I juggling... being a wife, a mom of two boys and all that goes with it, working three jobs, going back to college, home stuff that never ends, ...is that enough?!!

How do I do it all - NO IDEA!!!

I'm excited to see the new movie!

  13. Latley I've been taking it one day at a time! More spur of the moment activities and just doing it is how I've been getting by!

  14. I agree with Carissa - my motto is one day at a time. I'm not a mom yet, but I do have plenty of activities and I have this problem saying "no" so it does lead to a lot of stress - but if I focus on one day at a time, it definitely helps!

  17. Yeah, I don't do it all. =) In general, I'm pretty good at keeping track of schedules, events, etc, but with a baby on the way my brain is on the fritz. We got my husband a smartphone so he too could help keep track of the calendar dates and emails too. That's helped!

  18. I feel like I juggle nothing after reading about all you do. :) Haha. Right now I only have one little one, but come March when I have two under two I'm sure I'll do a lot more of the juggling! Right now I just try to make sure that when I do get downtime, I use it to do something that will really leave me feeling refreshed instead of wasting time online/in front of the TV. And I have recently started waking up early every morning so that I can have my prayer and devotional time before my son wakes up. That makes a HUGE difference in my day!

  24. I am a busy mom with 3 little kids all in sporting activities,a part-time nurse in the NICU every weekend and am an independent consultant with a great company called Thirty-one. Very often I feel like I just can't take on one more thing but that is when I plan a mommies night out with some of my closest girls and we do a mommies dinner, drinks or maybe a movie and that is enough. These nights away make me a better mom because when you take time for yourself you are better able to care for others.

  31. Like others have already written, I take it one day at a time...even on the craziest days, I try to take a little "me time" (such as reading, working out, meeting up with or chatting with friends, and a little shopping now and again).

  33. "Me" time, what is that? Between keeping schedules for three kids, carting the kids here at there, finding time to work, plus trying to hold down the fort by making it look nice. Next, throw in monthly board meetings, carting children to and from school, school field trips, juggling attention between three boys, homework, to and from hockey practice, BMX racing, confirmation, grocery shopping, laundry, back to school shopping (yep, still needing to do that), fixing things around the house, laundry, working, volunteering for hockey events, etc. I haven't found the time for "me" time, let alone a date night. However, I just keep chugging along and telling myself, "one day they will be thanking me."

  34. I have my morning cup of coffee and some days that is all the me time I get! Even if I am trying to get out to door with three girls, ranging in age from 4 months to 4 years, I have to have my morning coffee. Some (most) days I put it in a to-go cup, even if I am at home, because by the time I get to drinking it it would otherwise be cold. And maybe an afternoon bite of dark chocolate in the afternoon to get me by until dinner.

I am already subscribed to get emails and love the updates!

  37. Well, about once a day I get about 3 or 4 minutes in the bathroom before someone is shrieking at the top of their lungs "MO-OM!" and banging on the door. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THERE???" they ask. On the positive side, my kids are so busy requesting things and clinging to me, I hardly ever lose any of them. :)
